I am not referring to the somewhat loved 1995 film with John Travolta, but the continual direction that online dialogue follows.  Twitter made the conversation come down to it’s level and has exploded because America agrees. If you can’t say it in 140 characters or less, no one is interested.   This has moved into several other social media platforms and frankly when the consumer sees a huge post on facebook, or other popular sites, it is quite cumbersome and easily ignored.  Moving on…

This brings me to the gist of the post, getting shorter, specifically URLs.  IF you haven’t used one of them, try it, it’s easy and a must if you are trying to fit one more word in a post on twitter and still want to send someone to a website.  Some of the more popular ones are tinyurl.com, snipurl.com, notlong.com and then the ly’s bit.ly and ow.ly.  There are dozens of other unique short URL sites that promise to shrink your info for the sake of a post, but just as many that are here, there are just as many that have died along the way.  And by dying, the short URLs go with them, killing the link.  These shortening sites are excellent for getting more info into a 140-character space, plus they are saving digital green space.  Also, some have excellent tracking measurements so you can follow the folks that are clicking through to your links. This is a great resource to know if you are posting info your followers want to see or if you need to change up the info. So do you part and check it out and get shorty!
