What if Facebook was a community for the community? A social network ran and governed by it’s respective users? Would the company receive as much slack as they do for it’s changes?  These questions and others enter my mind and we can now call Facebook a household name. It’s known amongst the rankings of Google, McDonalds and Wal-Mart. How did a single community go on to dominate the social media realm? The company has only been in existence since 2004, and it’s already one of the most visited sites on the WWW and has enough users to be it’s own continent. The continued growth and popularity of the site makes me believe that it’s definitely here to stay. It has focused marketers and advertisers to direct their budgets to social media. Does this mean that eventually traditional media will exist no more? Recently, the site recently has even raised eyebrows from lawmakers on it’s privacy settings. Facebook has made some big dents into the social media world and ultimately formed it to what we know of it today. What if Facebook did not exist? Would there be another social media site in it’s place?
